Abstract: The monograph is based on a long-term joint research by the authors on food and its representation in contemporary media discourses. The authors investigate the pragmatic aspects in the corpus of media materials compiled by samples of American, British and Russian texts selected with the goal of analysing the cognitive models realized in the texts that reflect the structures of various situations connected with food and eating. The comparative analysis demonstrates that journalists in these countries tend to foreground certain components of the cognitive models with the intention of emphasising the elements of food interconnected with the foundation constituents of human existence and culture.
