This book explores Jean-Paul Sartre's vehement opposition to antiblack racism, arguing that his existentialist philosophy—particularly his early writings—provides a profound ontological foundation for anti-racist commitment. Central to this analysis is Sartre's concept of contingency: the idea that existence is not necessary and therefore can be changed. Since racial identity is contingent and chosen by no one, it carries no moral justification for discrimination. Mabogo More contends that Sartre's examination of conscious embodied existence equips us with the philosophical tools to understand the black experience in an antiblack world and to challenge racism broadly through the recognition of our shared, changeable condition.ru
