Abstract: Peter Walker, born in 1932, is one of the most influential landscape architects of the present – both as a teacher and in his works. His work now spans sixty creative years. Among the most famous designs are Nasher Sculpture Garden in Dallas, the Novartis Campus in Basel and the World Trade Center Memorial. Minimalist forms are characteristic of his "generous landscapes". The author of this book analyses his work in a retrospective and takes an unbiased look at the development of urban parks and squares over time. This investigation is rounded off by a presentation of Walker's central means of design. For the second and updated edition of the book, the preface and bibliography have been revised and a new index has been created.
