Metaphorical Conceptualizations

Abstract

The book explores the significant shift in cognitive linguistics, moving from a focus on universal matters to considering cultural and situational variations. It examines theories of cognitive and cultural linguistics in relation to several areas of research, including metaphorical conceptualization, the influence of culture on metaphors, metonymies, and conceptual blends, the impact of culture and cognition on metaphorical vocabulary, the intersection of pragmatics and cognition in studying metaphor in situ, such as face-to-face and virtual multimodal interactions, the application of insights from metaphor conceptualizations in language teaching, and recent methods for uncovering (inter)cultural metaphorical concepts (such as corpus-based approaches and gesture studies). The book combines cognitive, functional, and intercultural approaches.
