Welding Technical Communication

Abstract

This book examines the teaching and learning of welding through two perspectives. The personal narrative focuses on the author's own experience as a female welder, while the academic narrative uses scaffolded learning theory to analyze how four welding instructors' verbal and nonverbal communication, including their tutoring strategies and gestures, facilitated students' embodied knowledge and integration into a community of practice. This book fills a gap in technical communication research by exploring how teachers' technical communication scaffolding supports students' learning in the skilled trades. It is novel in its approach and will be of interest to researchers in technical communication and technical education.

В книге рассматривается обучение сварке с двух точек зрения: с одной стороны, это фокусировка на собственном опыте автора как женщины-сварщика, с другой стороны – анализ того, как вербальное и невербальное общение четырех инструкторов по сварке, включая их стратегии обучения и жесты, способствовало закреплению знаний студентов и их интеграции в сообщество практиков.
