Abstract: This paper introduces a novel ignition system for gas turbine engines (GTEs) fueled by natural gas, employing a glow plug to enhance reliability in low-emission combustion chambers with premixed fuel-air mixtures. Unlike conventional spark plug systems, which face challenges such as random ignition locations and prolonged fore-chamber filling due to limited mass transfer, the glow plug generates natural convective flow, accelerating mixture preparation and ensuring consistent ignition. Experimental and numerical studies, conducted using unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for reacting compressible flows, reveal that natural gas ignition requires a mixture temperature of 1450–1500 K and a residence time of several milliseconds, achieved through mass transfer control via an external sleeve. However, excessive restriction near the recirculation zone impairs ignition of rich mixtures. The system was successfully validated through pilot tests in the low-emission combustion chamber of the DG-90 GTE, used fo
