| dc.description.abstract | The aviation industry contributes significantly to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This study explores the potential of alternative aviation fuels to mitigate environmental impacts. Direct alternatives, such as synthetic fuels and second-generation biofuels derived from non-edible biomass, offer compatibility with existing engines and reduce emissions by up to 50% compared to conventional fuels. Third-generation biofuels and electrofuels utilizing carbon capture technologies also show promise but require further development. Hybrid and electric propulsion systems remain in early stages, with market readiness expected post-2050. Challenges include scalability, economic viability, and infrastructure adaptation. Collaboration among international organizations (e.g., IATA, ICAO), airlines, and manufacturers is crucial to promote sustainable fuel adoption. Enhancing production efficiency and incentivizing research are essential for achieving the Paris Agreement's climate goals. | |
